DAVIS HOUSE

A house for one, designed for single-story living that maximizes connection to the changing light over the mountains and views of the clouds. The form of the house is a singular horizontal band of living space that rests at the top of the hill, among the surrounding mountains and fields that rise and fall around the site.

The living space expands outdoors onto a wide platform deck. A regular exterior rhythm of glass windows and doors takes in landscape views from four directions, while the airy interior is punctuated with blocks of saturated materials and textures, including mahogany, Verde Valsaguna green marble, Nero Marquina black marble, and brass. The interior material blocks do not touch the outside walls, and allow views and movement to wrap around them. Windows and skylights act as compositional elements within the play of interior forms.
